Happy Baby

Full tummy = happy baby. That's what we've been calling Magnolia all day, happy baby.
We hit a turning point in her eating today. Now that she's feeling better and getting a taste of food beyond her bottle, she's willing to eat anything in sight! This morning it was quite a bit of yogurt and congee then she actually cried for her bottles and shoved them in her mouth herself. We decided to got out to dinner to the beautiful italian restaurant on the top floor. We fed her a bottle before we left. Of course I was stressed I would have to leave early with her if she started to fuss and cry. No, not at all. Happy as a clam in her highchair banging her toys and spoon. The bread came out with a chilled tomato sauce to dip it in. I spoon fed a little of that to her and she loved it. Then I had pumpkin stuffed cannelloni and fed her the pureed pumpkin, she loved that too. For desert they have homemade ice cream and George gave her a few bites. That she went crazy for! By the end of the meal, it was like she was drugged, I tried to carry her but she was a dead weight, a sack of potatoes. She was in lala land until she drifted off to sleep. Our day was very nice, very relaxing. All the other families arrived today from the province their babies are from so we met a few of them at breakfast. We opted out of the group trip to the Guangzhou Zoo today. It was rainy and very humid and we just thought we needed more rest for Magnolia. She took two short naps in the morning so in the afternoon we walked to a mall nearby. We bought her some funky outfits from a little shop. She had lots of young girls run up to her. With George's advanced Chinese, he told them he was her mother. This sent them into shrills of laughter. I can't tell you how many people offer kleenex or tell me to wipe her nose...and it's not even that runny. I've found for the most part, the Chinese tell it like it is, no holding back. It's kind of refreshing.
Tomorrow we are traveling to Magnolia's orphanage. It will be a three hour trip there and I'm sure very difficult and emotional but we are so happy we are able to do it, to ask more questions, take pictures, and see the place she spent the first 9 months of her life.

I will try to post pictures tomorrow morning then check back again to see pics of Magnolia's home town! Love to all, thanks for following along. We read and cherish every single one of your comments!

P.S. Willa, I got your message! It was so sweet of you to write! I miss you tons, you are going to make an awesome older cousin to Magnolia, she's going to LOVE you! We love China, it is a beautiful country with beautiful people. Everyone is so nice and welcoming, we are having a great time here! I think Magnolia is going to like ketchup, I have a feeling she'll like a lot of the same things you like! See you soon! xoxoxoxox Aunt Lucy-tell Ellie and Lily hello too!

Happy Magnolia's on the mend! Loved all the photos, and surprised you let Joe woo her with ice cream...we take that to mean we can feed her some good Wisconsin custard, eh? I am anxious to learn more about the orphanage and see any photos you are able to collect and post...what an experience...it will further deepen your knowledge and understanding of Magnolia's life before her new life began with you. We are of course counting the days until Saturday, and can hardly stand the wait until we can hold our newest granddaughter in our arms. Happy for all three of you, and we send our love from this other side of the world. Mom and Dad.

I am so glad you get to travel to Magnolis'a orphanage. I am sure it will be an emotional day for all of you but how wonderful!! Like Dad, I am counting the days until Saturday and I get to meet Magnolia in person. Can you believe your trip will be over soon? It sounds like you are cherishing every moment. I love to see you in Mom mode-worrying about going out to eat and having to leave early. We have had to leave many restaurants because of a fussy little one. Sounds like MAgnolia is a little trooper.
Take care and have a wonderful journey tomorrow!! Love, Aunt Mary

Today when I arrived at Lori and Charlie's to pick up the girls to go to play at Musa and Isa's there were an ambulance and fire truck parked outside. I went inside with my heart in my mouth, to find three cheerful ambulance drivers and a relieved Lori and Charlie. Charlotte had gotten into a small box of pediatric stuff from the refrigerator--I won't mention exactly what it was in mixed company. She is perfectly fine.

Lori decided it was time to gate the kitchen to prevent Charlotte from opening the refrigerator. She did, and within three minutes Charlotte had figured how to climb over the gate!

So, if her Wisconsin cousins haven't taught her the basics by the time Magnolia comes for a visit to St. Louis, Charlotte is ready and waiting to teach her everything a baby ought to know.

I'm so glad you were able to take Magnolia out for dinner--how amazing.

We are, of course, waiting with bated breath for the report on Magnolia's orphanage.

Our forecast is for a week of 102 days. Friday evening and Saturday Mom and the Kalishes were without power until late in the afternoon on Sat. Luckily, it still gets down into the high 70s at night--positively resort-like.

Much, much love to all.

Momla

I love the great report on Magnolia's health-Willa loved your message too! Ellie would like to ask Magnolia if she can crawl or walk--I said that I wasn't sure! The girls love her hair and can't wait to brush it. I hope that Magnolia can brush theirs in return, that sure would help! Love to you all~Emily
